MIKE HENNEMAN Owner/President
Former 11-year major leaguer Mike Henneman is the Owner and Team President of the McKinney Marshals. After retirement from a professional career that included affiliations with Detroit, Houston and Texas, Henneman started the North Texas Red Hawks amateur baseball club to ensure that his two sons received the right kind of baseball instruction on and off the field. When Mike was approached about the possibility of bringing a Texas Collegiate League team to McKinney, Henneman followed suit and changed his youth organization's name to the McKinney Marshals and the rest is history.
SHAYNE CURRIN
General Manager
Under Shayne Currin's guidance, the McKinney Marshals youth program, which covers ages 7-18U, has amassed an .850 winning percentage and has won nine National Championships. In just a few short years, the McKinney Marshals baseball club has earned a reputation among professional scouts, college coaches, high school coaches, parents and players as one of the finest youth baseball organizations in the region. In 2008, Shayne will begin his sixth year as an associate scout for the New York Yankees, after spending three years as an associate scout with the Houston Astros.

Rene Asprion - Roving Pitching Instructor
Along with being a part time scout with the Kansas City Royals, Marshals coach Rene Asprion is a Sales Manager for Diamond Pro. Rene is a graduate from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he played on both Division I Southland Conference Championship squads in 1990 and 1992. Before making the UTA team as a walk-on in the fall of 1989, Rene graduated from Grapevine High School where he also played baseball, basketball and golf.
Felix Castillo - 18U
Marshals pitching coach Felix Castillo graduated in 1998 from Maria Auxiliadora High School in Carolina, PR. After HS, Felix attended Frank Phillips College on a baseball scholarship, where he set many pitching records. In 2000, Felix transferred to Wayland Baptist University where he still holds even more pitching records. Felix is currently teaching and coaching at Garland High School.
Andrew Embry - 17U Gold
Marshals coach Andrew Embry has been associated as a friend and co-coach with Shayne Currin for 20 years as both started on Sam Carpenter’s Dallas Mustang inaugural team in 1986. Both share the back to basics style of play which includes bunting, the hit and run, and playing hard nose baseball. Andrew played baseball for the University of Houston under legendary coach Bragg Stockton. Andy still runs the skills and drills that were taught to him as a UH Cougar to this day for his marshals players.
Brett Emery - 15U Black
Brett Emery comes to us from the great state of Louisiana where he graduated from Archbishop Rummel HS in New Orleans. After graduation, Emery played OF for Delgado CC and then went on to star for the Privateers of the University of New Orleans. After college, Emery moved to the metroplex to start his coaching career with several area youth teams, including the Dallas Tigers. Brett is currently the head baseball coach at Lovejoy HS after assistant coaching jobs at Plano East and Coppell.
Mike Ford - 17U Black
After a playing career as a catcher, Mike wound up his college career and began a career in education, a move that eventually led to his current position as the head baseball coach at Trinity Valley Christian High School in Fort Worth. Coaching a 16U team for a different organization last year, he led his team to the 16U AABC state finals. A long-time area select coach, Mike is in his first year with the Marshals.
Keith Furnish - 15U Black
Keith Furnish finished his college playing career and put his degree in education to work as a corporate educator. Setting his sights on giving back to the game of baseball, Keith has focused his efforts on the youth baseball community for the past 20+ years. Keith has coached for the Dallas Braves, North Texas Redhawks, Dallas Mustangs and other select baseball clubs just to name a few. Keith is the proud father of Brad Furnish, Allen HS graduate and St. Louis Cardinal farmhand.
Joe Griffin - 15U Gold
Joe is a 1994 graduate of Truman High School in Independence, MO, where he was a 3 year letter winner in baseball. After his career at Truman, Joe went on to attend and play baseball at Rockhurst University. After college, Joe turned down an offer to play Independent baseball to put his degree to work in the corporate world and moved to Dallas in 1999. Joe has been giving private lessons in the Dallas area for the last 8 years.
David Hadeler - 17U Black
David is a long-time area select coach. After his playing days as an outfielder were over at North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas), he completed graduate school and entered the advertising profession. After a solid professional career in advertising, he taught as an adjunct professor at SMU for two years before joining the university full-time as a lecturer in January 2008. Coaching for another organization in 2007, he led his 16U team to a 41-8 record and an AABC Mickey Mantle State Championship and a berth in the Mickey Mantle Regionals. This is his first year with the Marshals.
Kyle Hope - 16U
Kyle is currently the head baseball coach at Richardson High School, where several of his former players have gone on to play college and professional baseball. He is currently a member of the ABCA and the THSBCA and recently served as regional director of the THSBCA. Kyle was formerly the head coach of the Texas Collegiate League McKinney Marshals where he received the TCL Coach of the Year Award in 2004 and won the league championship in 2005.
Brian Jones - 18U
Brian Jones was a standout ballplayer at Dallas WT White HS where he was All-District all four years. After high school, Brian played ball and graduated from NAIA powerhouse Northwood University. After college, Brian spent several years coaching area teams such as the Dallas Braves, Bandits and the Dallas Mustangs. Brian is best known for leading Greenville High School to its first playoff appearance in 1998. From there, Brian was the head coach at Creekview, and is currently coaching baseball at Wylie High School.
Devon Mize - 15U Gold
Mize began his baseball career at Howe High School in 1994. He was named Defensive MVP of district 12-AA his Soph and Jr. seasons as a catcher. Mize attended Austin College and played baseball for the Fighting Kangaroos. Mize was named to the AS All-Conference team in 2002, and was 2nd on the team in average and RBI’s, while leading the team in hit by pitches. Ironically, Devon’s last at bat of his career was a strikeout on a pitch that hit him.
Dave Ostroff - 17U Gold
Dave played his HS baseball at Norfolk Academy in VA, where he played on 4 conf. championship teams and 2 state private schools' title winners. He also earned all-state recognition and conf. MVP honors as a senior. Ostroff then graduated from Dartmouth College, where Dave jokingly admits that he was 'the worst player in all of Division I.' Dave currently serves as the head baseball coach at the Parish Episcopal School in Dallas.
Andy Postema - 16U
Andy graduated from Aquinas College, under the mentoring of NAIA Hall of Fame coach Terry Bocian where he was a two-time All American. Andy signed a free agent contract in 1990 to play professionally with the Baltimore Orioles. He played two years in the minors, earning All-Star honors in the NY-PENN league in 1990. Andy is currently a coach at Grapevine Faith Christian School.
Dax Powell - 13 Black & 16u
Dax is from Denison, TX where he led DHS to an appearance in the state finals in Austin. After HS, Dax received a scholarship to OU. After the 1995 season, Dax transferred to the University of Texas where he played in 1996. From UT, Dax became a coach at Grayson CC from 1997-01, where the team played and won back to back JUCO National Championships. From a stint with the Texas Rangers, Dax was the pitching coach for the TCL Copperheads and the TCL Lone Stars.
Jake Self - 15U Gold
Jake Self is a 1997 graduate of Aubrey High School, where he was a 3 year letter winner in baseball. Jake's HS highlight was being invited to play in the Texas Legends All-Star game at The Ballpark in Arlington after his senior year. After his career at Aubrey, Jake went on to attend and play baseball at Austin College. While there, he split time as a right fielder and a pitcher. After he was finished playing at Austin College, he helped out with the Roo’s pitching staff as he finished up his degree.
Brian Thomas - 17U Gold
Portland, Oregon native Brian Thomas starred for Madison High School and then went on to Texas A&M University, where he was the Rookie of the Year and was named captain as a junior and senior and received the MVP award his senior year. After being drafted by the Rangers, "BT" was sent to Port Charlotte, FL where he made the All Star Team. In 1995, he played for AA-Tulsa and in 1996 for the OKC 89ers, where that team won the title that year.
John Tovar - 18U
After a stellar HS career at WT White HS in Dallas, John went onto Navarro College on an athletic scholarship where he played 2 years. John received his Bachelors Degree in Education from Southwest Texas State University in 1992. John began his HS school career at R.L. Turner H.S. and then went on to Sunset H.S. from 1996-2006 where he was the Head Baseball Coach. John is currently the varsity assistant at W.T. White H.S.
Adam Yates - 15U Black
McKinney HS baseball legend Adam Yates will start his first year with us as the manager of the 13U gold team and as an assistant coach for the 15U Marshals. Adam attended Barton CC where he was a national leader in batting average. From BCC, Adam played at OSU where his career was ended prematurely by an injury. After OSU, Adam attended SNU in Oklahoma for 2 years and finished his career in the Frontier and Continental professional baseball leagues. Adam also currently coaches at Parish Episcopal in Dallas.
Youth Level Coaching Staff
Dallas Balma - 7U
Dallas grew up playing baseball in California and was taught the game by his grandfather who was a Reds minor leaguer and his father who was a minor leaguer with the Red Sox. At the age of 16, Dallas had to choose between basketball over baseball where he was a two year starting guard for his state ranked HS team. Now a Dallas resident, Balma has coached his two sons for the past four years with great success.
Kyle Krowka - 8U
Kyle grew up playing competitive baseball in North Texas throughout his childhood and into his late teen years. A the age of 19, Kyle started his coaching career in competitive youth baseball. For the past 12 years, Kyle has assisted on a number of top level baseball teams of all ages throughout the North Texas area, including previous National Championship McKinney Marshals' teams. Kyle will manage our 8U team this year with the hopes of coaching his even younger son in the Marshals organization in the years to come.
Collins DeLoach - 9U
Irving, TX native Collins DeLoach is a 1990 graduate of Irving High School where he led his team to two district titles and the state playoffs. Collins held multiple hitting titles in the DFW Metroplex and was named All-Metroplex and All-District in both his JR and SR Years. Collins played in both the Connie Mack and in the DABA leagues, and one year at Baylor University. DeLoach has successfully coached his Marshals youth baseball team for the past 3 years where they have won one national title and record of 111-25-1.
Ross Hawley - 14U Gold
Ross graduated from Madison High School in Madison, SD in 1998 where he earned a scholarship to Augustana College. Ross was the first player in school history to be selected in the MLB Draft when he was taken by the Brewers. Ross then transferred to KSU where he was was elected a team captain. Hawley was then selected by the Dodgers where he pitched two seasons before ending his playing career.
Brett McCabe - 14U Black
California native Brett McCabe started his playing career at American River CC and then went on to Washington State, where he starred for the Cougars. After a stint with the Chicago Cubs, Brett started his coaching career at SDSU, where his teams broke several records. From SDSU, Brett was the Head Coach at Augustana College. From AC, McCabe took a job at KU in Lawerence. Brett is a very successful baseball instructor and has coached 2 National Championship teams with the Marshals.
Rod Murrell - 10U
Long time Dallas area coach Rod Murrell's baseball career started in Dallas where he led Skyline HS to 4 straight titles after being named all-state his junior year. His senior year was followed with another all-state and All-American selection while signing with UT. During his senior summer, the Mets drafted and signed Rod where he started his pro career which lasted for 5 years. Rod has worked as a private instructor and coach and is known in the Dallas area as a hitting and defensive specialist.
Gary Paul - 11U
Plano, TX native Gary Paul graduated from Plano HS and earned a scholarship to the University of Arkansas. After his freshman year, Paul transferred to MCC and led the NJCAA in wins before an injury interrupted his season. Gary finished his collegiate career at UT-Arlington where he helped lead UTA to their first ever NCAA Playoff appearance. Gary is entering his 4th season with the Marshals as the head coach of the 11U team.
Corey Pointer - 12U
Corey Pointer graduated from Waxahachie HS, were he played both football and baseball. In Baseball, Pointer was a 4-year letterman and won several awards including all-district and all-state. After HS, Pointer was tabbed by prep magazines as the 2nd best player in TX behind Ben Grieve and the 2nd best catcher in the USA behind Jason Varitek. Corey was drafted in the 2nd round by Atlanta, where he played for several years. Corey then played with the Pirates after being involved in the Denny Neagle trade.
Adam Yates - 13 Gold
