About the Marshals

HISTORY OF THE MARSHALS
It started simply with a dad and his sons wanting to enjoy the great game of baseball together.  After retiring from Major League Baseball, Mike Henneman thought he was going to be able to rest after 11 years of professional baseball. However, his sons started playing baseball and wanted Dad there with them. As they became more involved, Mike was bothered by how some of the “select” clubs were run and how some teams and coaches conducted themselves. He wanted to find a way that kids could really learn the game -- 'The game within the game' -- yet still have fun while playing it. He started a 'select' team, the RedHawks, which grew into a small organization of teams after a few years. That organization eventually changed to the McKinney Marshals Baseball Club, and one of the best youth baseball programs in the country was born.

ONE OF THE MOST RESPECTED PROGRAMS IN THE REGION
When you take into consideration the coaching, and the invaluable college and pro connections that this organization has, there simply isn't a better program in which to place a young ballplayer. This highly respected program is managed under the watchful eyes of General Manager Shayne Currin and former Major League pitcher Mike Henneman, the founder and president of the McKinney Marshals Youth Baseball Organization. Mike is also part owner/President of the TCL McKinney Marshals as well as part owner/President of 'The Ballfields at Craig Ranch'.

ORGANIZATION
Our organization is designed to provide our young athletes with a structured building block approach to help them achieve their baseball dreams. The base of our pyramid will be our U7 through U14 competitive youth teams, which will feed into our U15 and U16 high school prep teams, which will in turn feed into our U17 and U18 college prep teams. This building block approach will give our athletes the background, training, and opportunity to excel and advance from competitive youth baseball, to High School ball, to College ball and possibly beyond. We strive to do this by hand picking select coaching volunteers to serve as our head coaches for the competitive youth teams. At U15 and above our teams are only coached by paid professional coaches. These coaches have all played and coached at levels beyond 'club' baseball. The tip of our pyramid is the U17 and U18 teams which will 'showcase' our ballplayers to college coaches and scouts for possible scholarship opportunities.

MISSION
At present we now have 16 teams ranging from U7 to U18. We are dedicated to providing an environment where student-athletes are instructed and prepared physically, mentally and emotionally to successfully compete in baseball and life. In addition to teaching our players the physical skills of the game, we want to give them a better understanding of the 'game within the game'. It is upon these philosophies and values that prospective High School, Collegiate and Professional players will be trained and developed.

The goal of The McKinney Marshals Program is to:

  1. Make sure players play in as many games as possible. We try to carry the right amount of players to maximize opportunities for each player. Players get better by playing.
  2. Put our high school players in as many leagues and or tournaments in front of pro scouts and college coaches as possible.
  3. Win as many games, tournaments and Championships as possible.

To reach this goal, our coaches will provide the following:

  1. Facilitate the skill develoment and training of each player
  2. Provide opportunities for exposure to college coaches and pro scouts through our fall and summer programs
  3. Provide an environment that will help mold young men into model citizens
  4. Live, practice and play with respect for the game, to create in each player the desire to compete at the highest level of their abilities
  5. Instill a competitive spirit and motivation to excel in any situation, and to provide the very best instruction, coaching and conditioning possible.

If we provide this to all of our players, we can together, as players and coaches, meet all of the organizations goals.

FOCUS
Our focus as an organization is on teaching these young men the game of baseball, and how to be successful in advancing to the 'next level' of play. Winning of course is the objective we all strive for, however, we realize that teaching them about teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work and self-disipline is just as important.
